Week 2 :: Day 4 — Bible Study — Ruth
Read Ruth 2:11-16
11. “And Boaz answered and said unto her, If hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left they father and thy mother, an the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou newest not heretofore.
12. The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given the of the Lord God of Israel, under those whose wings thou art come to trust.
13. Then she said, Let me find favour in thy sight, my lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken friendly unto thine handmaiden, though I be not like unto one of thine handmaidens.
14. And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and est of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.
15. And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not:
16. and let her fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not.”
Recompense means to repay
sufficed and left means satisfied with some left over.
Ruth has had a reputation of being hardworking and dependable. This is good character. My bible says “Good character comes by consistently living out the truth God reveals in his Word— no matter who we are with or where we are. As your character goes, so goes your reputation for being a person of trust, of truth, and of commitment to honor God in all you do.”
Boaz was extremely caring towards Ruth. He had her over for a meal in which she was full and had leftovers, he allowed her to work in his fields and told the other works to leave some grain in the fields for Ruth.
God had a plan the entire time. From the moment that Naomi’s husband moved their family to Moab, until the time they returned to Bethlehem. God had a plan, and his plan is slowly working out. From Ruth deciding to stay and care for Naomi, she has now met Boaz and he is already starting to help take care of her and lookout for her. Gods plan is always greater than any plan we could ever imagine.
The study book mentions the word SHALEM which means repay and full reward. The word SHALOM means peace, wholeness, and completeness.
The study book says “We find refuge in the mercy of our God, sheltered under His almighty wings. Ruth’s life has not been easy, but God would carry her through. Boaz speaks of the God of Israel as her God, again showing that she was no longer an outcast. Ruth was invited to eat and drink her fill. Ruth has came empty, but she would leave full. The same is true for us. We come to Jesus empty, with nothing to offer, and in Bin we are satisfied.”
How do we find shalom peace in Jesus?
We can find peace knowing that he is the almighty and he has forgiven us of our sins. He is the miracle worker and the promise keeper. He is the light in our darkness.
What have you found refuge from?
(Refuge is finding safety during times of danger or trouble)
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
We find refuge from growing closer to Him. Through prayer, bible study, and living for him. Of course it’s normal to have fear, but he is our refuge during the storm.
We come to Jesus with nothing, and He fills us. List some things that Jesus fills us with.
Jesus fills us with love, forgiveness, hope, a caring heart, and so many more! I’d love to hear what you come up with.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for your blessings. Help me to be a light and say/do something to draw someone closer to you. Help me to love like Jesus. Thank you for dying for us so that we can have eternal life.
-Amen
